In a time when politicians live or die by the "gotcha" moment, did Jay Love pull a gotcha on Bobby Bright with Bright's supposed endorsement of Barack Obama?
In Love's TV ad, Bright is shown giving an enthusiastic "yes" when asked if he supports Obama. Bright contends that his response was cut off, and officially, he hasn't endorsed anyone. This attempt to qualify his answer really doesn't help Bright. Are we to believe that in a Presidential campaign with so much at stake, he can't decide who he supports?
Bright has an identity crisis. He is running as a Democrat, but puts up signs that say "I'm a Bright Republican." He says he runs a clean campaign, but allows attack ads from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to be run against his opponent. He says party labels mean nothing, but he's running with one.
Teams do matter. Just ask Christopher Bailey, a former Auburn University cheerleader who transferred to the University of Alabama and was kicked off the squad for giving the wrong cheer during an ESPN interview in the 2003 Iron Bowl. If Bright really supports Obama, it would be more honest for him to just publicly announce it and give his reasons behind his choice. If he doesn't support Obama, then he's playing on the wrong team. One thing's for sure; Jay Love doesn't have to hide who he supports.
